Man shot, killed after allegedly breaking into west Phoenix home

A man is dead after he was shot while allegedly breaking into a home in west Phoenix early Saturday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A man is dead after he was shot while allegedly breaking into a home in west Phoenix early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the man who was killed as 25-year-old Isaac Nathaniel Cordova-Fregoso.

Officers were called to a residence near 75th Avenue and Broadway Road around 3:18 a.m. for reports of a shooting and found Cordova-Fregoso with at least one gunshot wound, police said.

Despite lifesaving measures by officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggested that Cordova-Fregoso was shot after forcing his way into the home and being confronted by its occupants.

The shooter was identified and interviewed, and the account given was consistent with investigators’ findings.

The person was released pending the investigation into the fatal west Phoenix shooting.
