Man faces DUI, manslaughter charges for wreck that killed girl in Phoenix

PHOENIX – The man allegedly driving a car that crashed into an armored vehicle in west Phoenix two months ago, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old girl, was arrested on multiple counts Friday, authorities said.

Tu’Ulafoaina Poloa, 29, was booked on charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangerment and aggravated DUI, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

Police said Poloa showed signs of impairment after the wreck, which occurred around 7:30 a.m. on March 24.

His 2007 Cadillac was speeding westbound on Thomas west of 83rd Avenue when it crossed into eastbound traffic and hit the armored vehicle, police said.

Two girls in the Cadillac, ages 5 and 11, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The older girl died March 28.

According to Fox 10, Poloa is the girls’ stepfather.

Neither Poloa nor the two men in the armored vehicle were injured.

Investigators developed probable cause before arresting Poloa, according to the release.
