Tolleson Police responded to a report of a man waving a large knife at an apartment complex in the area of 91st Avenue and McDowell Road around 5:40 p.m., according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Quintin Shadle, then ran to two nearby hotels where he reportedly threatened several individuals with the knife.

Officers located Shadle inside the second hotel’s lobby, still armed with a large knife and acting erratically. Police proceeded to shoot Shadle after he failed to comply with their commands.

Authorities said officers immediately rendered medical aid at the scene. Shadle was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, authorities said.
