Man left dead after nighttime single-vehicle crash in Peoria

PHOENIX — A man is dead after crashing into a streetlight pole in Peoria on Sunday night, according to authorities.

The Peoria Police Department said officers responded around 11 p.m. to the area of 91st Avenue and Hatcher Road for reports of a single-vehicle collision.

They found a 2015 gray Ford Fusion with damage “primarily impacting the driver’s side door” and a man with “significant injuries.” The man was pronounced dead and later identified as Hector J. Urquidez Montano, a Buckeye resident.

Investigation suggested that Urquidez Montano was traveling northbound on 91st Avenue before he drove onto the center median and went across northbound traffic lanes. His car then rode on the sidewalk east of the road and collided with the pole.

Peoria police said speed is a factor in this fatal crash. Impairment is being investigated as a possible factor.

Both directions of 91st Avenue were closed for several hours while police began their initial investigation.
