Alleged intruder hospitalized after getting shot by resident at Gilbert apartment

PHOENIX – The resident of a Gilbert apartment shot and wounded an alleged intruder on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 23, authorities said.

A caller from an apartment near San Tan Village Parkway and the Loop 202 Santan Freeway reported the shooting around 4:30 a.m., according to the Gilbert Police Department.

The caller said an unknown man broke in and allegedly physically assaulted the resident who shot him, police said.

Officers arrived and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The investigation into the Gilbert shooting is ongoing.
