Man in custody for trespassing, destroying Charlie Kirk memorial near Turning Point HQ

PHOENIX — Police placed a 19-year-old man in custody on Sunday morning for trespassing at a private business and destroying a community memorial in south Phoenix, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department responded to a report around 9:50 a.m. of a young man “seen damaging a community memorial in front of a business” located close to the intersection of 48th Street and Beverly Road.

ABC15 reported that the memorial was near Turning Point headquarters, co-founded by Charlie Kirk who was assassinated at a Utah college on Wednesday.

Following detainment of the man, in which witnesses helped officers, authorities identified him as Ryder Corral. There were no “serious” officer injuries from the detainment process.

Because of a “large community presence” at the time of the incident, additional officers were on the scene to help guide local traffic.

Corral was booked into Maricopa County jail and charged with one count of criminal damage and one count of disorderly conduct.
