45-year-old man arrested in connection with Gilbert stabbing

PHOENIX — A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with a stabbing that occurred last week in Gilbert, authorities said.

The Gilbert Police Department identified the man taken into custody as Jose Casimiro Ramirez.

The arrest came a day after authorities asked for the public’s help identifying a suspect in the March 14 incident.

Ramirez was booked into jail on charges of first-degree burglary, attempted sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping, disorderly conduct and probation violation.

Officers responded to an unknown trouble call at a residence near Vaughn Avenue and Elm Street just after noon, according to police.

The female caller told police that Ramirez had allegedly grabbed her and forced his way into her home after he knocked on the door and she opened it.

After pushing his way in, the woman called for her husband and Ramirez fled. The couple followed and a short distance from the house, Ramirez stabbed the husband in the lower abdomen with a knife before fleeing through the downtown Gilbert area, police said.

Authorities said neither the husband nor wife was critically injured.
