Man arrested after woman found dead from gunshot wound inside Gilbert home

PHOENIX — A man was arrested after a woman was found dead inside a home in Gilbert early Monday morning, authorities said.

The Gilbert Police Department identified the man as 26-year-old Judah Chesley.

According to police, officers were called to a home in the area of Cottonwood Drive and Cypress Street for a welfare check just before 1 a.m.

When police arrived at the residence, they found 21-year-old Angelys Spurgeon dead inside with evidence of a gunshot injury.

Officers proceeded to check on the other occupants inside the home and detained Chesley.

Detectives conducted interviews and collected evidence before determining that Chesley and the victim were allegedly in a domestic relationship.

Police said that Chesley was then arrested and booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge.

The investigation into the fatal incident is ongoing.
