PHOENIX – Police in Phoenix are looking for the drivers in two hit-and-run vehicle-pedestrian collisions over a 12-hour span on Thursday.

In the first incident, Andrew Joaquin Salazar, 58, was fatally struck Wednesday evening near 28th Street and Broadway Road, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Officers were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Salazar was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.

The initial inquiry indicated Salazar was crossing Broadway Road in the middle of the block when a westbound vehicle hit him.

Another hit-and-run occurred in the area of 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 5 a.m. Thursday.

Police said a woman, later identified as 38-year-old Norma Nichols, was struck by a passenger vehicle that left the scene. She was hospitalized in critical condition but ruled dead on Saturday afternoon.

The intersection was closed while the scene was being investigated.

Anyone with information about either collision should call Phoenix police at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish language.
