Man accused of child sex crimes in Goodyear arrested in Mexico after decade on the run

PHOENIX — A 46-year-old man accused of child sex crimes in Goodyear was arrested in Mexico and returned to the United States on Wednesday after being wanted for a decade, authorities announced.

Luis Aguirre was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and is accused of molestation of a child, sexual abuse, and sexual conduct with a minor, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a press release.

He was identified by the Goodyear Police Department as the suspect in 14 counts of sex crimes, which were allegedly committed over a seven-year period from 2004 to 2011.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Aguirre in September 2011.

The U.S. Marshals’ field office in Mexico assisted the Goodyear Police Department in locating Aguirre after the investigation indicated he had left the United States.

“The arrest of Aguirre is the result of a thorough investigation by Goodyear Police Department detectives with significant assistance from Mexican law enforcement,” U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said in the release.

“Although it is not unusual to track and arrest fugitives years after they flee to foreign countries, it is gratifying when people like Aguirre are arrested and returned to the U.S. to face their crimes.”
