Magic: The Gathering, other games featured at new Chandler restaurant

PHOENIX – Fans of Magic: The Gathering and other tabletop games are getting a unique place to gather, play and dine in metro Phoenix.
Mox Boarding House recently announced that its first venture beyond the Pacific Northwest will be in Chandler, although no timeline for opening has been set.
Construction is underway at the former site of Iguana Mack’s and Social Box Neighborhood Eatery at 1371 N. Alma School Road, between Ray and Warner roads.
“We are thrilled to welcome this unique restaurant and entertainment concept to Uptown Chandler,” Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said last week in a press release.
“This burgeoning area on the north side of Chandler continues to see employment growth, redevelopment, and new investment. Mox Boarding House is a great addition to the mix and we wish them many years of success.”

In addition to a restaurant where patrons can check out games for free while they dine, the venue will include a retail area that sells more than 1,000 different board, role-playing, card and other tabletop games as well as a kiosk where players can buy and sell Magic: The Gathering cards.

The location will have more than 10,000 square feet of dining and gaming space and an outdoor patio. It will also have two private rooms with themes based on Arizona history and myths.
The restaurant will feature “specially curated menus using many locally-sourced ingredients, along with wide selections of beer, wine and craft cocktails,” according to a Mox Boarding House blog post.
“Stepping into a Mox Boarding House is an instant transportation to somewhere special. Each of our locations provide an opportunity to unplug and spend quality time with others,” Jorel Miller, director of Mox Boarding House, said in the post.
“We offer a sense of community packed with a vast selection of games, good food, and craft beverages, for all seeking a unique experience in an environment like no other.”
Mox Boarding House was founded in 2011 and currently has two locations in Washington (Seattle and Bellevue) and one in Portland, Oregon. The concept is the brick-and-mortar arm of Seattle-based Card Kingdom, which specializes in Magic: The Gathering supplies and services.
