Low-cost swim lessons available through Phoenix Parks and Recreation

PHOENIX — Low-cost swim lessons from Phoenix Parks and Recreation have started for the summer, and they could help save your life or a child’s life.

“Let’s get those kids swim lessons, let’s make that a priority,” said Phoenix Fire Captain Kelly Liebermann.

“We can’t remove the bodies of water; we’re not going to remove all the pools and the canals.”

Twenty-nine Phoenix pools are offering two weeks of swim lessons for $15.00.

Becky Hulett with Phoenix Parks and Recreation said there are eight classes in the two-week session. Some classes at certain pools are only $3.00; these are sponsored by SRP in June and July.

Hulett said starting in August, all classes are $3.00.

As of Monday, there had been 20 drownings in Maricopa County this year. Five were fatal.
