Local First Arizona’s Independents Week returns June 29-July 7

Arizonans are being encouraged to support their neighborhoods this summer as Local First Arizona kicks off its annual Independents Week.

The nine-day statewide campaign, which runs from June 29 through July 7, aims to celebrate the independent businesses that fuel the state’s economy and shape its local culture.

This year, the initiative is focusing heavily on the organization’s coalition businesses, offering residents a guide to finding certified local independents in their communities.

“Supporting local businesses is one of the most direct ways Arizonans can invest in each other,” Kimber Lanning, founder and CEO of Local First Arizona, said in a news release. “Independents Week is about making the breadth of that community visible and making it easy for people to find and celebrate the businesses already doing the work in their own backyard.”

The Local First Arizona coalition includes thousands of businesses across the Grand Canyon State, ranging from longtime family mechanics and accountants to boutique shops and local chefs.

Organizers emphasize that spending money at locally owned establishments helps recirculate dollars back into the Arizona economy, supports jobs and sustains the unique character of the state’s cities, towns and Tribal communities.

As part of the campaign, residents are encouraged to share their favorite local businesses on social media using the hashtags #LocalFirstAZ and #IndieWeekAZ. Local First Arizona will reshare those posts throughout the week to help others discover new local alternatives.
