Maricopa County Library District celebrates opening of new West Valley branch

The Maricopa County Library District (MCLD) is opening a new library in partnership with the city of Litchfield Park next week.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for Litchfield Park Library, located near Litchfield and Camelback roads, will be held at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, before the building opens to the public at 10 a.m.

The library is 10,000 square feet and part of the city’s La Loma Homestead redevelopment. It is expected to expand the community’s access to resources, technology and gathering spaces.

“This library represents the beginning of a new chapter in Litchfield Park’s story, and a significant investment in our community,” Litchfield Park Mayor Thomas Schoaf said in a news release. “We are proud to partner with the Maricopa County Library District to honor the vision and legacy of our City’s Founder, Paul. W. Litchfield, while reimagining La Loma Homestead into a cultural destination for the region.”

Following the ribbon cutting, the library will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

The facility is almost 40% larger than the city’s current library, which will be closed until Aug. 2 while collections and equipment are being moved to the new building.

It has new amenities, they include:

• Additional seating
• Two reservable study rooms
• Dedicated teen space
• A larger room for events
• Upgraded technology
• A state-of-the-art automated book sorting system

The library also features a youth-painted mural that highlights the region’s citrus groves, the hilltop’s peacocks and a memorial plaque for the late city council member and county supervisor Max Wilson, who helped shape the West Valley.

Additionally, MCLD will be able to expand its popular free programs and services. During Fiscal Year 2026, Litchfield Park Library had more than 55,000 visitors, hosted more than 304 programs, more than 6,500 library cardholders and circulated more than 101,100 physician materials.

“The Litchfield Park community has long embraced its library, and this new facility gives us the space and technology to build on that strong foundation,” MCLD Director Jeremy Reeder said. “This library was thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers while creating new opportunities for learning, creativity and community connection.”

The city has owned and maintained the library since 1989 while MCLD has provided library operations and staffing.

For the new facility, district four of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors gave $5 million in Community Solutions Funding, which was secured by Supervisor Clint Hickman.

The city and MCLD worked together throughout the construction of the library.

“The new Litchfield Park Library is an investment in education, opportunity and the quality of life for families across the West Valley,” Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Debbie Lesko said. “This beautiful new library will provide a place where residents of every age can learn, connect and thrive for years to come.”
