12-year-old named Arizona’s 2025 Mini Master Model Builder, moves on to global Lego competition

PHOENIX — A 12-year-old boy from Peoria was named 2025 Mini Master Model Builder at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Arizona for his creation of a Lego tech store.

Charlie Martin won the Tempe attraction’s contest by constructing a three-story Lego building that includes several showrooms packed with model VR headsets and computers, as well as a courtyard featuring a waterfall.

He and his creation will head to the Lego House in Billund, Denmark, where he will then compete for the title as the first-ever Global Mini Master Model Builder. Once there, builders will be tasked with designing something that reflects their hometowns.

As winning the local competition at Arizona Mills, Charlie was greeted with confetti showers and a brick dumping — similar to when winning coaches get Gatorade dumped after big wins, only this time it was small bricks on top of a hard hat.

What did Arizona’s Lego Mini Master Model Builder win?

In addition to his upcoming trip to Denmark, Charlie will have access to the Discovery Center’s Formula One-themed Build the Thrill Event.

Running through April 27, the event allows builders to simulate the F1 racing experience on a much smaller scale. It includes creating a driver, designing a car and racing it.

Recently, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Arizona builders set a world record for the most racecars raced (260) in a three-minute span. The cars were made up of more than 3,000 bricks.
