Gov. Katie Hobbs supports Transwestern Desert Southwestern Pipeline expansion

Governor Katie Hobbs announced her support on Friday for Transwestern Pipeline’s Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion, according to a news release.

The expansion will enhance Arizona’s energy landscape, drive economic growth across the Grand Canyon State and help to deliver a reliable energy future through the transformative infrastructure project.

“Ensuring reliable and affordable energy for Arizona’s families and businesses is a top priority for my administration,” Gov. Hobbs said. “With existing pipelines fully subscribed, securing additional natural gas capacity is critical to supporting Arizona’s long-term prosperity. The Desert Southwest Pipeline will significantly increase our state’s energy capacity and diversify our energy resources. Arizona’s all-of-the-above energy strategy is ensuring we have the energy we need to expand our economy and deliver for working people in this state.

“Arizona continues to grow. And our growth will only further increase energy demand. Desert Southwest ensures that during periods of high demand, we have the energy we need to meet it.”

Hobbs added that this pipeline will continue to make energy more reliable and affordable, which is “the key to a thriving and booming economy,” and it will continue to “create new economic opportunities for future generations of Arizonans.”

“The Desert Southwest Pipeline will provide a critical energy backbone that enables our existing businesses to grow and thrive, while ensuring Arizona remains an attractive destination for high-tech manufacturing, the booming clean energy economy and the technology and innovation sector,” Hobbs said.

In addition to the economic growth and future of energy reliability and affordability in Arizona, Hobbs noted this expansion project will also provide more jobs for Arizonans.

“This project is about more than just infrastructure — it’s about investing in our workforce and supporting Arizona families,” Hobbs said. “The Desert Southwest Pipeline expansion will create hundreds of good-paying jobs with strong wages and benefits, ensuring our workers are valued and that prosperity is shared across our communities.”

As this project strengthens Arizona, Hobbs is also looking forward to working with her peers in New Mexico and Texas as the project spans East.
