Kari Lake locked out of account temporarily for violating Twitter rules

PHOENIX – Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake apparently was locked out of her Twitter account temporarily for posting prohibited content in a video attacking Republican primary foe Karrin Taylor Robson.

Lake used her Instagram account Thursday night to show an image that implied her Twitter account had been locked. She used the post to ask for campaign donations.

A Twitter spokesperson told The Daily Beast that Lake would have to delete a video posted Sunday that violated terms of service to regain control of @KariLake.

The Daily Beast said the video was titled “Kari Lake EXPOSES Her Opponent’s Disgusting Fundraising Tactics” and showed a phone number that was deemed private information.

“We took enforcement action on the account you referenced for violating the Twitter rules on private information,” Twitter’s Trenton Kennedy told the news site on Friday morning. “The account owner will be required to delete the violative tweet before regaining full access to their account.”

Lake was apparently able to tweet again by around 10 a.m. Friday, when her account responded to a reporter who shared The Daily Beast’s story.

Prior to that, her last timestamped tweet was sent at 7:56 p.m. Thursday. There were several retweets in between, but Twitter doesn’t show what time retweets were made, so it’s not clear what time the usually active account was locked.

A Google search done at 11:30 a.m. Friday on the video title returns a link to a deleted tweet that shows a message saying, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.”

The temporary freeze started the night before Donald Trump rally in Prescott Valley, where Lake and other candidates endorsed by the former president are scheduled to speak on Friday.
