Police investigating fatal shooting in north Phoenix that left 1 dead, 2 in the hospital

Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in north Phoenix early on Sunday morning and left one person dead, authorities said.

PHOENIX — Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in north Phoenix early on Sunday morning and left one person dead, authorities said.

The shooting injured two others who were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a suspect was also taken into custody but released pending further investigation, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

What is known about the fatal shooting in north Phoenix?

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the early hours on Sunday morning at an apartment complex near 17th Avenue and Bell Road.

When police arrived they reportedly found three adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.

Medical aid was provided but one of the victims, identified as 33-year-old Adrian Andrade, died at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and were able to identify a suspect, who they then located and took into custody, authorities said.

According to Phoenix Police, the suspect told investigators that they acted in self-defense, after which they were released.

This is an ongoing investigation.
