Heavy delays on I-17 north of metro Phoenix ease after wreck cleared

PHOENIX – A wreck on Interstate 17 north of metro Phoenix caused a significant backup for southbound traffic midday Monday, authorities said.

Traffic was temporarily stopped for a vehicle recovery after the crash at milepost 250, near Sunset Point, according to Arizona Department of Transportation.

As of around 12:30 p.m., southbound I-17 traffic was backed up to the Cordes Lakes area.

All lanes were reopened by 1 p.m., but heavy delays took a while to clear up.

Sunset Point is about 55 miles north of downtown Phoenix.
