PHOENIX – A teenage pedestrian was fighting for her life Tuesday morning after a hit-and-run collision in Tempe, authorities said.
The 16-year-old girl was crossing against the light in the crosswalk at Broadway Road and Country Club Way when she was struck, according to the Tempe Police Department.
The teen was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
Upon investigation using traffic cameras, authorities identified 48 year-old Vincente Diaz Castellanos as the suspect and he was driving a white Honda Odyssey during the incident.
He was later arrested and booked on two counts of accidents involving death or physical injury.
Broadway Road was closed at River Drive, west of the Loop 101 Price Freeway, during morning rush hour while the incident was under investigation, police said. Motorists were advised to use Southern Avenue or Apache Boulevard to bypass the closure.
