PHOENIX — If there’s a constant for Arizona parents, it’s what they like to name their children.

Liam was the state’s most popular baby name for a boy for a fourth consecutive year while Olivia overtook Emma as the top baby girl name in 2019, according to a preliminary list from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Liam was followed by Noah, Sebastian, Oliver and Elijah in the top five for boys names this year. Benjamin, the No. 5 boys name in 2018, fell to No. 7 in 2019.

Emma, which was the top girl’s name for the past three years, was No. 2, while Isabella, Sophia and Mia retained their spots in the top five for girls names.

The list of baby names comes from birth certificates submitted to the Arizona Department of Health Services’ Bureau of Vital Records.

An official count of the year’s top baby names will be verified and posted online at the department’s website in February.
