Grand Canyon hotel accommodations to close Monday following flash flooding

Hotel services at Grand Canyon National Park will close on Monday following significant flooding that forced dozens to evacuate on Saturday.

The hotel closures come amid Stage 4 water restrictions on the South Rim that will take effect at noon Monday.

The park service said the floods damaged water infrastructure within the inner canyon, leaving the waterline nonoperational.

That meant water reserves dwindled, “requiring significant water conservation measures to ensure available supplies can be maintained,” officials said.

What does flooding mean for Grand Canyon?

The national park will remain open to visitors during the day, with South Rim food and beverage services among the many that will still be active. However, some will see shortened windows of activity.

Overnight accommodations at the following locations will cease, according to a release:

• El Tovar
• Bright Angel Lodge
• Maswik Lodge
• Phantom Ranch
• Yavapai Lodge
• Trailer Village

Dry camping will still be available, as South Rim spigots will be shut off while faucets in bathrooms will still be utilized. Campers will have spigot access at the Mather Campground check-in kiosk.

Fire involving wood or charcoal is prohibited.
