Goodyear breaks ground on new water treatment facility

PHOENIX – Goodyear will receive water through an additional supply in a few years.

The city broke ground on a new water treatment facility on Friday that will carry surface water to the Phoenix suburb for the first time.

Goodyear has previously relied on pumped ground water for its supply. The facility is expected to begin operation in late 2021.

“We all know how important it is to us as a community, and investing in Goodyear’s water future has been very important to the councils of the past, but it’s certainly very important to this City Council,” Vice Mayor Bill Stipp said in a press release on Friday.

According to the release, the project will connect Goodyear to its Colorado River water allocation through a 6-mile water pipeline.

The canal system will deliver 8 million gallons of a water per day to the plant.
