Glendale neighborhood left without power after car crashes into utility pole

PHOENIX — A Glendale neighborhood was left without power on Monday night after a car crashed into a utility pole, authorities said.

Officers responded to a collision between a Mazda CX50 and Subaru WRX near Peoria and 49th avenues around 6:45 p.m., according to the Glendale Police Department.

Police said the Mazda rolled over, caught fire and struck a light pole, cutting out power in the area.

How many Glendale homes lost power after crash?

That crash caused approximately 1,800 customers to temporarily lose electricity.

Over 30 homes were still without power as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, but the issue was fully resolved by midmorning, according to the SRP outage map.

Occupants from each vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
