PHOENIX — A fugitive who fled kidnapping charges in Arizona and escaped to Mexico has been captured and returned after evading law enforcement for more than three years, authorities said.

Mexican authorities detained 46-year-old Oscar Noe Alday last Friday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Alday was deported to the U.S. and booked into jail in Pima County on Monday.

In response, the Pima County Superior Court issued an additional warrant for his arrest on an escape charge and the sheriff’s department asked the U.S. Marshals Service for help.

After learning that Alday had fled to Mexico, investigators spent hundreds of hours tracking his movements and issued multiple additional warrants in the process.

During the years between his escape and eventual recapture, investigators also arrested his mother for allegedly providing him with financial support while he was a fugitive.

Four other individuals believed to have assisted him were charged with hindering prosecution, one of whom is currently in the custody of the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said he’s grateful for the cooperation between Mexican and local authorities.

“This successful apprehension demonstrates the power of collaboration between local, state, federal and international law enforcement partners,” Nanos said. “Through these coordinated efforts, a fugitive has been returned to face accountability for his crimes.”
