At 59th Avenue between Lower Buckeye and Buckeye roads, only northbound traffic will use the road.
A new frontage road to the west side of the freeway will carry southbound traffic.
The traffic changes come as the project near completion.
The Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway is scheduled to be open by the end of the year with construction continuing into 2020.
It will add 22 miles of new freeway and provide a direct link between the East Valley and West Valley that bypasses downtown Phoenix.
