Dad accused of bringing 10-year-old son along to Mesa museum heist has been indicted

A father accused of involving his 10-year-old son in a burglary at the Mesa Arts Center has been indicted and remains in custody on a $40,000 bond, prosecutors announced Monday.

According to the Mesa Police Department, 31-year-old Jean Zintz forced open a locked door and stole about $7,350 worth of jewelry, a Bluetooth speaker and a piece of cactus on Aug. 19.

Police said Zintz later returned with his son to retrieve a water bottle but fled after learning officers were at the museum.

Detectives stopped Zintz’s vehicle and later recovered the stolen property. Police said he admitted to the burglary and planned to take the items to Washington, where he had a flight scheduled later that day.

A grand jury indicted Zintz on one count each of theft, burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The boy is not facing charges, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
