Falcon Field Airport in Mesa to host 80th anniversary fair

PHOENIX– The Falcon Field Airport in Mesa is celebrating its 80th-year anniversary with the “Fabulous 40s Fair” on Saturday.

Festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Falcon Field Park & Historic World War II Hangar. Admission and parking will be free.

Activities will include tours through a World War II hangar, carnival rides and games, a paper airplane station, a photo booth and food trucks, per a press release. Come Back Buddy will perform 40s and 50s era music.

There will be informational booths present featuring aviation businesses and non-profit organizations for people to learn how to pursue careers in aviation.

The airport originally opened as a training base for US Army Air Cops pilots and the British Royal Air Force during World War II in 1941.

By 1948, the federal government deeded the facility to Mesa as a municipal airport.

Today, the Falcon Field is an alternative site for corporate, military, recreational and instructional use in the Valley.
