PHOENIX – An elderly woman was struck and killed after the light changed while she was crossing a north Phoenix street on Sunday night, authorities said.
Officers responded to a collision call near Third Street and Bell Road around 7:45 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
“They found a woman lying on the roadway and a vehicle stopped nearby,” Sgt. Phil Krynsky said in a media advisory.
The woman, 82-year-old Vera Sihirlic, was pronounced dead at the scene.
What happened as elderly woman was crossing Bell Road?
Detectives determined that Sihirlic started crossing Bell Road at Third Street on a green light, but the light changed before she made it across. She was then hit by an eastbound vehicle that had a green light.
“The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment,” Krynsky said.
The investigation is ongoing.
