Ducey supporters drop lawsuit against challenger’s spot on primary ballot

PHOENIX — A candidate for Arizona’s Republican gubernatorial nomination is staying on the ballot.

Ken Bennett — a former Arizona Secretary of State — is the lone opponent to Gov. Doug Ducey in the GOP primary.

A group of Ducey supporters had challenged over 1,300 of Bennett’s petition signatures.

They said some didn’t match voter records, and others were signed by Democrats or unregistered voters.

The group recently agreed to drop its lawsuit; their lawyers would not say why.

Bennett submitted 7,833 signatures; he needed at least 6,223 valid ones to qualify for the ballot.

The primary election is Aug. 28.
