Driver who backed up on I-10 arrested on suspicion of DUI

Arizona troopers stopped another wrong-way driver Wednesday, catching up with a car on Interstate 10 in metro Phoenix.

PHOENIX – Arizona troopers arrested a driver Wednesday night who they say drove in reverse on Interstate 10.

Bart Graves, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman, said Eugene Isip’s son had called him for help when his vehicle broken down under the 91st Avenue overpass near the eastbound lanes.

Graves said Isip backed up to get to his son’s vehicle near the freeway’s “slow lane.”

Isip was charged with DUI and placed into the custody of his daughter, Graves said.

The agency initially said Thursday that Isip was spotted heading westbound in eastbound lanes at 75th Avenue. Graves later said there was “no evidence of a wrong-way.”
