Teen driver killed in early-morning collision with semi-truck in west Phoenix

An 18-year-old driver died after a collision with a semi-truck on Monday morning in Phoenix, authorities said.

An 18-year-old driver died after a collision with a semi-truck on Monday morning in Phoenix, authorities said.

Officers and fire personnel who responded to the scene near 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street found Jamison Lamont Saunders injured, according to the Phoenix Police Department. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators believe Saunders struck the rear of the semi-truck after losing control of his vehicle around 2 a.m.

The driver of the big rig was not injured. Police said he was evaluated and showed no signs of impairment.
