Driver suspected of DUI after pedestrian killed in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a motorist who is suspected of driving under the influence on Monday night in Phoenix, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the deceased person as 60-year-old David Mills.

Police responded to the area of 24th Street and Glenrosa Avenue around 9:50 p.m. for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and found Mills suffering from serious injuries.

Mills was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Mills was standing at the back of his car — which was legally parked on the southside of Glenrosa Avenue — when he was hit by another vehicle, police said.

According to authorities, the car was traveling eastbound on Glenrosa Avenue when it hit Mills.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was processed for DUI after showing signs of impairment, police said.

Any charges in the deadly Phoenix incident are pending toxicology results as well as the collision reconstruction.
