DPS ups reward in Interstate 10 shooting in Phoenix to $50K

PHOENIX — The reward for information on the Interstate 10 shootings in Phoenix was raised to $50,000 on Monday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
“Lives are at risk,” DPS Director Col. Frank Milstead said. “People are terrified.”
The reward money was staked by multiple agencies. The Arizona State Troopers Association said it was contributing $1,000.
“DPS troopers, and law enforcement in general, are also targets as they go out there and do their job day in and day out,” ASTA President Sgt. Jimmy Chavez said in a statement. “Whether this is something that is related to the recent ‘anit-cop’ movement or not, these unlawful actions are certainly terrorizing our community.”
Prior to Monday’s hike, the reward stood at $20,000. Silent Witness originally offered $5,000 for information.
Milstead said investigators are working around the clock to catch the suspect or suspects. At least 850 tips have been received by law enforcement.
Over the weekend, DPS announced that a person of interest in the shootings was not the prime suspect. The agency also arrested three Mesa teenagers who were using a slingshot to target random pedestrians and vehicles in copycat crimes. The teens were not connected to the person or persons who have opened fire on the freeways.
There have been 11 confirmed shootings along the I-10 freeway since Aug. 29. Little progress has been made in identifying a prime suspect or suspects in the incidents.
