PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services issued a closure notice to a downtown Phoenix music venue on Wednesday, citing coronavirus violations for an hosting a large concert for rapper Polo G over the weekend.

ADHS ordered The Pressroom to immediately close for business after social media video surfaced showing the venue held a concert on Saturday that showed a lack of distancing and mask wearing.

The venue also failed to file the required business attestation before opening, a form that establishments submit to ADHS saying they will comply with coronavirus mitigation guidelines.

The Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control also suspended the venue’s liquor license.

Under state guidelines, bars not operating as restaurants are required to remain closed until community spread reaches a minimal level or receive an exemption from ADHS.

In December, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey issued enhanced guidance for large public events, which are classified as more than 50 people, giving power to cities and towns to approve large events as long as coronavirus measures were in place.

The gathering at The Pressroom comes as coronavirus cases remain high in Arizona. On Wednesday, state health officials reported 4,845 new coronavirus cases and 262 additional deaths from COVID-19, bringing the state’s documented totals to 690,544 infections and 11,528 fatalities.

Arizona continues to lead the nation in average daily coronavirus cases per 100,000 people over the last seven days, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID Data Tracker.
