Dog bites Phoenix police officer who was trying to rescue it from closed vehicle

PHOENIX – In a classic case of “no good deed goes unpunished,” a dog bit a Phoenix police officer who was trying to rescue it over the weekend.

The incident occurred Saturday at the Hunt’s Tomb parking lot in Papago Park, north of the Phoenix Zoo, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene after a caller reported seeing a dog in apparent distress inside a closed vehicle.

“When officers arrived, they attempted to get the dog to a cooler location, during which time the dog bit one officer,” Sgt. Jennifer Zak told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.

After biting the officer, the dog ran away. The animal’s owner could not be located, police said.

The officer received treatment for the bite at a nearby hospital.
