PHOENIX – Tax day was pushed back this year, but April 15 is still the deadline for Arizonans to make charitable donations they can claim on their 2019 state returns.
As part of the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, the federal and state filing deadline was delayed by three months until July 15.
However, the state was unable to change the charitable donation deadline because it is built into state statute, according to the Arizona Department of Revenue.

Still, qualifying donations made by Wednesday count as being given by Dec. 31 for 2019 state tax purposes.
Arizona offers two tax credits for charitable giving, one for qualifying charitable organizations and one for qualifying foster care charitable organizations.
The maximum credit for qualifying charitable donations is $400 for individual and $800 for married joint filings. The maximum for the foster care credit is $500 for individual and $1,000 for married joint filings.
The deadline also applies to refundable credits available for making contributions to a certified school tuition organization or directly to a public school.
The credits can reduce the amount owed or increase the refund amount.
