Dead body found on Shaw Butte mountain in north Phoenix

PHOENIX — The dead body of a man was found on Shaw Butte in north Phoenix on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to one of the mountain’s trail, located near Central Avenue and Thunderbird Road, around 4:15 p.m. for an unknown trouble call, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When police arrived on scene, a witness directed them to the location of an unresponsive male.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded and determined that the man was dead.

According to Phoenix police, there were no obvious signs of trauma.

Police are handling the incident as a death investigation and the fire department will assist in recovering the body once the investigation is complete.

The identity of the man was not released.
