4-year-old, 2 adults in hospital after 2-vehicle crash in north Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 4-year-old child was left in critical condition and two adults were hospitalized in a two-vehicle crash in north Phoenix on Friday morning, authorities said.

At roughly 8 a.m. on Friday, Phoenix police responded to the area of 49th Avenue and Happy Valley Road. The child and both adult drivers were removed from their respective cars and taken to a nearby hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department. The adults had minor injuries.

One of the cars was “actively on fire” when police arrived, according to authorities.

North Phoenix crash details

Detectives reported the vehicle that contained the child had been traveling east on Happy Valley Road when it “crossed into incoming lanes of traffic” and struck another vehicle.

Neither driver showed any sign of intoxication when interviewed by authorities.

The intersection was closed for about five hours on Friday for initial review.

This is an ongoing investigation.
