Arizona woman sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatal child abuse involving fentanyl

PHOENIX — An Arizona woman was sentenced last week to 15 years in prison for abuse resulting in the death of a child, authorities announced Monday.

Stacie Marie Narcho, 47, gave a minor methamphetamine and fentanyl in early November 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. As a result, the child fatally overdosed.

“This case is a stark reminder of the irreversible harm caused when adults expose children to dangerous drugs,” U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine said in the announcement. “A young life was lost, and a family was forever changed.”

Where did the child abuse involving fentanyl, methamphetamine take place?

Narcho’s prison time will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Narcho is from Sells, an unincorporated community in Pima County, and the crimes took place on the Tohono O’odham Nation, prosecutors said.

The FBI’s Tucson office and the Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department investigated the case. Nathaniel J. Walters, an Assistant U.S. Attorney from the District of Arizona’s Tucson office, handled the prosecution.

FBI Phoenix Acting Special Agent in Charge Joe Hooper said he hopes this sentence sends a message to anyone who harms youths in Arizona.

“People who provide highly addictive and deadly drugs, such as methamphetamine and fentanyl, to our youth will face the harshest extent of the law for their actions,” Hooper said. “This epidemic hurts families, communities, and in this case, took the life of a child.”
