Chandler man rescued from floodwaters in Apache Junction after vehicle swept away

PHOENIX — A Chandler man was rescued from floodwaters in Apache Junction on Monday after his vehicle was swept into the Weekes Wash flood control basin.

Apache Junction Police Department officers responded to a call of a stranded driver being caught in rising water at around 8:30 p.m. in the area of Fourth Avenue and Tomahawk Road, authorities said.

Upon arrival, Apache Junction officers located the 59-year-old man and conducted a water rescue.

Police told the driver to remain inside his vehicle, as they used a rope with one end stemming from the patrol vehicle and the other end thrown to the driver.

An officer then went into the wash and helped the driver back to the roadway.

Superstition Fire and Medical later evaluated the driver and determined he did not have any injuries.

Once water levels lowered, the driver’s vehicle was removed from the wash and towed to his residence.
