PHOENIX — Interim director of the Arizona Department of Revenue, Carlton Woodruff will now serve as the permanent director, after Gov. Doug Ducey announced Friday.

Woodruff’s experience includes serving as a deputy director in the Office of the Arizona Treasurer since 2011. He worked as an assistant deputy treasurer from 2009 to 2011.

“Carlton is a highly qualified, dedicated public servant,” Ducey said in a release.

Since taking over as the interim director, Woodruff has led the agency to a collection record of $19.3 billion distributed back to to the State General Fund and cities across the state.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue leading the Department of Revenue,” Woodruff said in the release.

Under Woodruff, the Department of Revenue instituted technology such as a live-chat feature on the website to improve customer relations.

“As Arizona continues to grow, it’s critical that state agencies like the Department of Revenue continue to streamline operations, clearly communicate changes in the tax code and deliver excellent customer service to Arizona taxpayers,” Woodruff said.

Woodruff was appointed as the interim director in November after Ducey was re-elected and after former director David Briant announced his retirement.

“I’m confident he will continue to be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars at this important agency,” Ducey said.
