PHOENIX – Stretches of Interstate 10 and US 60 will be closed this weekend due to work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

Drivers also have to watch for restrictions on I-17 in north Phoenix and Loop 101 in the West Valley, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Oct. 11-14. (All times noted below are subject to change.)

As the Broadway Curve project progresses, eastbound I-10 will be closed from the State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) in Phoenix to Ray Road in Chandler from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for paving and bridge work.

In addition, the following ramps will be closed starting as early as 8 p.m. Friday:

  • Southbound I-17 to eastbound I-10 at the “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
  • Southbound SR 143 to eastbound I-10.
  • Westbound I-10 to eastbound US 60 and northbound SR 143.

Meanwhile, westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be closed from the Loop 101 Price Freeway to I-10 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for bridge and sign work related to the Broadway Curve project.

The ramps from Country Club Drive, Alma School Road and Dobson Road to westbound US 60 will also be off-limits starting as early as 8 p.m. Friday as part of this closure.

Late last year, ADOT said work on the Broadway Curve project, which started in October 2021, was on pace to be finished by the end of 2024. However, the project website now lists spring 2025 as the anticipated completion time.

What are the Valley freeway closures outside the Broadway Curve?

In the West Valley, a long stretch of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway will be out of commission for pavement sealing. The work will be staggered, with both directions impacted but at different times.

The northbound lanes will be closed from I-10 all the way to Thunderbird Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The same 11-mile stretch will be closed in the opposite direction from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Crews plan to reopen completed sections of Loop 101 as the work progresses through the weekend.

One other area to watch

While there are no other scheduled closures, traffic on I-17 in north Phoenix will be delayed, mostly during overnight hours, by work on an ongoing pavement improvement project.

Southbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane from SR 74/Carefree Highway to Loop 303 each night from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

In addition, northbound I-17 will be limited to one lane from Jomax Road to Loop 303 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
