Arizona politicians shared their reactions on Saturday to the second fatal shooting involving federal officers in Minneapolis.

Arizona U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego shared what appears to be a video of the incident, claiming that federal officers shot the man after he was already lying motionless on the ground. He described the fatal shooting as “despicable and completely avoidable” and demanded that ICE, who he called the “lawless goon squad,” be removed from communities.

In addition, U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly said the Trump administration’s actions aren’t making communities safer but instead “creating chaos in the streets.”

U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva questioned how many more people had to die before President Donald Trump would put an end to the “brutal, unchecked campaign of terror.” She emphasized that she is tired of watching lives get cut short while Washington shrugs.

Police liaison quits following AG Mayes’ controversial interview on ICE

The police liaison for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has resigned following Mayes’ comments last week regarding ICE operations and Arizona’s Stand Your Ground law.

David Harvey quit on Friday but Richie Taylor, Mayes’ spokesperson, has not confirmed whether Harvey’s resignation was directly due to the attorney general’s rhetoric on a 12News interview from Tuesday, according to azcentral.com’s Stacey Barchenger.

Taylor did say that Mayes “was articulating a very deep concern she has about the possibility for these situations to spin out of control and end in tragedy,” as Minneapolis has recently experienced a pair of deadly shootings involving federal agents.

The controversy began when Mayes expressed concerns that confrontations between Arizona residents and ICE could turn deadly in an interview with 12News. She called the combination of armed residents who are empowered under the law to defend themselves and mask-wearing agents without uniforms “a recipe for disaster.”

Man dead after being shot by federal officers amid immigration crackdown in Minneapolis

A federal immigration officer shot and killed a man Saturday in Minneapolis, drawing hundreds of protesters onto the frigid streets and ratcheting up tensions in a city already shaken by another fatal shooting weeks earlier.

Family members identified the man who was killed as Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse who had protested President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in his city. After the shooting, an angry crowd gathered and protesters clashed with federal immigration officers, who wielded batons and deployed flash bangs.

Information about what led up to the shooting was limited, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. In bystander videos of the shooting that emerged soon after, Pretti is seen with a phone in his hand but none appears to show him with a visible weapon.

3 teens arrested in connection with 2025 homicide in north Phoenix

Three teens were arrested on Friday in connection with a 2025 homicide in north Phoenix, authorities announced.

The three men — 18-year-old Demarius Shaw, 19-year-old Raul Clavel and 18-year-old David Brunt — were booked into Maricopa County jail on one count each of first-degree murder.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the men are suspected of killing 17-year-old Marki Terril Anthony in October 2025.

Police said detectives determined that Anthony was killed in an exchange of gunfire that was the result of an attempted robbery.

Sights and sounds from Phoenix ICE office as people gather for vigil honoring Alex Pretti

People came together on Sunday for a vigil at the Phoenix ICE Office in honor of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse who was killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Among the speakers at the event was Rev. Warren Stewart Sr., formerly the senior pastor of the First Institutional Baptist Church in Phoenix. He compared ICE to the Ku Klux Klan for how they wore face coverings and sought to divide.

“(Homeland Security officials) remind me of the racist police, sheriffs and deputies who brutalized and dehumanized people who were marching nonviolently in protest for equal rights during the civil rights movement,” Stewart said. “We must not complain and comply, we must engage in courageous resistance.

“We must not allow this country to go in reverse to where it was before the historic civil rights movement.”
