PHOENIX — A man suspected of being behind the wheel during a fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix this past summer was arrested on Monday, authorities said.

Jacob Wren, 19, is accused of leaving the scene of a crash that claimed a pedestrian’s life on July 25, the Phoenix Police Department said.

The crash took place near 34th Avenue and Camelback Road shortly before 11 p.m.

Patrol officers responded to the scene to find 51-year-old Pedro Luis Leyva Cobas suffering from serious injuries.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but died due to his injuries while at the medical facility.

What led up to fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix?

Wren was allegedly driving west on Camelback Road shortly before the crash. The collision took place when Leyva Cobas was crossing midblock on Camelback Road, police said.

Wren allegedly parked his car near 39th Avenue and Elm Street after the crash. He then left on foot, police said.

Wren was found and arrested on Monday. After a police interview, authorities booked Wren into jail on one count of failing to remain at the scene of a fatal collision.

No further details were released as this is an ongoing investigation.
