2 Arizona teenagers arrested after shooting during high-speed car chase

PHOENIX – Two Arizona teenagers were arrested on federal charges this week in connection with a shooting during a high-speed car chase in Tucson last month, authorities said.

A plain-clothes Tucson Police Department officer conducting operations in an unmarked vehicle near Stone Avenue and Fort Lowell Road observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on April 20, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

The officer followed the vehicle and shared the license plate with other officers. One of the occupants then allegedly fired shots at the unmarked vehicle multiple times, prosecutors said. The officer was not injured.

An additional patrol car responded and tried to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it after a chase.

Detectives took over the investigation and were later able to identify 19-year-olds Hassan Omar Kassim as one of the occupants. They also learned that Alexandra Brooke Wisdom, also 19, allegedly was in the car before and after the shooting and abandoned it after the chase.

The southern Arizona teenagers were arrested Tuesday and charged with several offenses, including possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Their prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Public Safety Partnership. The program is designed to enhance support of state, local, and tribal law enforcement.
