Arizona ranked No. 23 state for growth based on moving truck activity

PHOENIX — Arizona was ranked as the No. 23 state for growth by a popular moving equipment company.

U-Haul analyzed the movements of its rental trucks in 2018 and found that one-way arrivals of trucks in Arizona rose 11 percent compared to 2017.

One-way departures also increased, but arrivals accounted for more than half of all one-way traffic in the state.

Last year, Arizona saw more departures than arrivals and was ranked 43rd.

The state’s last net-positive year was 2015, when it was ranked No 15.

For 2018, Texas was ranked No. 1 and Florida was ranked No. 2 — both for the third year in a row — followed by South Carolina, Utah and Idaho.

Illinois, Michigan and California made up the three states experiencing the most net departures of U-Haul trucks.

Many Phoenix suburbs saw a net gain of arrivals, including Goodyear, Surprise, Glendale, Gilbert and Peoria.

Phoenix and Mesa saw large increases in both arrivals and departures, indicating growth in overall traffic.
