PHOENIX — Arizona has once again been ranked last in a list of the most charitable states.

On Giving Tuesday, personal finance website WalletHub released a ranking of all 50 states based on 19 metrics in two categories: volunteering and service, and charitable giving.

Arizona, which was No. 50 overall last year, came in last for charitable giving and 43rd for volunteering and service.

The state also ranked low in percentage of population who donate time (No. 46) and came in at No. 48 for both percentage of population collecting and distributing food and charities per capita.

Mississippi and New Mexico joined Arizona in the bottom three, while Minnesota, Utah and Maryland topped the list.

For the charitable Arizonans who are looking to donate on Giving Tuesday, Attorney General Mark Brnovich recommended doing research beforehand.

To make it easy, websites like Charity Navigator and Arizona Gives help identify legitimate nonprofits.

“Go and take a look … find a nonprofit that you love and donate online,” Kristen Merrifield, CEO of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

Valley chain Barro’s Pizza will be giving 100% of the day’s sale to St. Mary’s Food Bank.

“All 44 locations,” Jerry Brown, spokesman of the food bank said.

Last year, that giving added up to $255,000, he said.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Bob McClay and Ashley Flood contributed to this report.
