Approaching 100: Phoenix expected to reach 99 degrees Tuesday

PHOENIX — It’s not even tax day, but the Valley is approaching triple-digit weather.

Tuesday was forecast to reach 99 degrees in Phoenix, according to Weather.com.

Last year, the temperature didn’t reach 99 degrees until May 3. The very next day reached 103 degrees, the first triple-digit day of 2017.

The earliest day for triple-degree temperature in Phoenix was March 26, 1988, according to the Associated Press.

If Tuesday does reach 100, it would be the fourth-earliest on record, according to Praedictix Weather.

We should get a little luckier this year – Wednesday’s temperature was predicted to drop to 98 degrees. In true Arizona fashion, Friday will be more than 20 degrees cooler, forecast at 77 degrees and windy.

You can set your sweaters aside after that. By Sunday, it’ll be back into the 90s.

As close as this week will get to the 100-degree mark, Weather.com doesn’t expect it to get up there at all this month.

As of April 9, the site doesn’t predict triple-digit temperature until May 31. Take that with a grain of salt, though, as forecasts change with time, particularly over a month-and-half time period.

Since 1981, the average first day of 100-degree weather is May 2, according to AP.
