Police investigating apparent murder-suicide after 3 found dead in Scottsdale home

PHOENIX – Three people, including a teenager, were found dead in Scottsdale this week in an apparent murder-suicide case, authorities announced Thursday.

The victims’ bodies were discovered with gunshot wounds around 3 p.m. Wednesday in a home near Pima and Indian Bend roads, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

The deceased were identified Friday as 51-year-old Tod Lonergan, 46-year-old Lisa Lonergan and 15-year-old Sophia Lonergan.

Police initially conducted a welfare check at the residence around 10 a.m. after receiving a report that one of the victims missed work and could not be reached.

Officers made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the occupants before entering the backyard and spotting two people who appeared to be dead inside the home.

They then went into the residence and found the third body in a separate room.

Investigators, who collected evidence from the crime scene throughout the night, are approaching the case as a probable murder-suicide with no other suspects.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner is working to confirm the causes of death.
